This past week I got a double dose of American culture, first seeing Dolly Parton kick off her European tour in Glasgow on her second sold out night at the SECC to seeing Margaret Cho at the Edinburgh Fringe this past weekend.

While maybe at first glance they are polar opposites, they share quite a bit in common, firstly, both being very American, and second, being divas and icons, most likely because they have constructed and exploited their identities in a pioneering fashion to the point where they are celebrated and reviled.
Both put on a great show, and I have never enjoyed America more than from Scotland, where Dolly Parton fans are way rowdier than Margaret Cho fans!
